Pulse is a companion to Kindred, a public art project at Mission Rd and Huff Ave, located in District 3. Pulse honors the San Antonio River as the lifeblood of this city. Known as Yanaguana, the river is a critical element in the heritage of native peoples. Pulse is a commitment to this waterway and promises protection for Yanaguana’s connected waters. The sculpture's limestone base features three edible grains. Each grain represents a chapter in the history of our region. The mesquite seed pod is a heritage grain used by the area's first peoples. Mesquite seeds symbolize the land’s original sustenance. Wheat and corn were grains introduced with colonization, and these grains represent change. Together, these grains tell the story of a community shaped by water, food, and time.
